Grad School and Crossroads
Thanks to this glorious recession, my position at “X Publishing” company became “redundant,” and because of the “reductions,” X Publishing promptly reduced me. Hi, I’m Lindsay, and I was recently laid off.
I was a literature major in college that chose X Publishing because it was one of the places that offered me a job that actually had something to do with what I studied, AND tuition reimbursement. I never doubted that I would go back to school; I love dissecting modern American fiction, and miss the conversations we had in class. So I thought that in a few years, after I adjusted to working full-time, I would find a grad school in my area that offered me an M.A. in Literature or Professional Writing. And then X Publishing let me go.
Here I am, just as free as I was in college, and I am left with a choice: Do I pursue academia full time, or search for another job that provides tuition reimbursement? What would you do?
